Aubrey Fletcher 3/9/15 Humanities Professor Michaud 417868 Judaism, Christianity, and Islam There are roughly 4,200 different religions in the world today, among them the largest are Judaism, Christianity, and Islam. These three religions are more similar then one would think. Christianity is the largest religion in the world with 2 billion followers and are called Christians. Islam is the second largest religion in the world with 1.3 billion followers. They are called Muslims, which means ââ¬Å"one who strives to summit to god.â⬠(Christian answers) Judaism is the oldest and twelfth largest religion in the world with 14 million and are called Jews. Judaism, Christianity, and Islam are all monotheistic faiths, meaning they all only believe in one god. In saying this though their belief in god is different, ââ¬Å"Jews believes in one god known as Yahweh or Jehovah; while Christians believe in the trinity (one god who exists in three distinct persons) the father, son, and Holy Spirit; and Muslims believes in Allah.â⬠(Christianity views) They also all believe in the Holy Spirit, but their beliefs on what the Holy Spirit is differs greatly. Christians believe that the Holy Spirit is part of the trinity of god. Jews believes the Holy Spirit is identical to one of the angels, Gabriel. Muslims believe that the Holy Spirit was not a person, but divine power that was given to the prophets. All three religions also believe in angels and demons.
